01 — How to spot it

The six signs we find most often.

A hacked site rarely "goes dark". More often it keeps working while quietly acting against you. Here are the most common signs to watch for: if you notice even one, it's worth having it checked.

Unexpected redirects

You open the site and get taken elsewhere: gambling, pharma, adult content. Often only on mobile or only when arriving from Google, to evade checks.

Spam pages on Google

Searching your name on Google shows pages in Japanese, pharma or offers you never published. It's the classic "SEO spam" injected by hackers.

Browser warning

Chrome, Safari or Firefox show a red "Deceptive site" or "This site may harm your device" screen. At that point almost no one enters.

Emails in spam

Emails sent from your domain land in your customers' spam or get rejected. Often it means the server is being used to send junk mail.

Slow or unstable site

Sudden slowdowns, abnormal traffic spikes, errors that weren't there before: often the sign of malicious processes running in the background, eating resources.

Modified files

Site files with recent modification dates you never touched, new admin users appearing from nowhere, plugins or code you don't remember installing.

02 — The first minutes

Before you call us: what not to touch.

In the first hours after discovering an attack it's easy to make things worse out of panic. Here's the difference between the moves that protect you and the ones that, sadly, destroy evidence or wipe out the only path to recovery. If you want the full step-by-step procedure, we wrote it up in our guide on what to do when your site is hacked.

What to do

The moves that limit the damage and keep recovery paths open.

  • ✓Put the site offline or in maintenance mode. You stop the malware reaching visitors and halt any spam being sent from the server, avoiding further harm to the domain's reputation.
  • ✓Change all passwords, not just one.Control panel, FTP, database, hosting, email and admin accounts: if you forget one, the attacker walks back in through the door you left open.
  • ✓Back up the current state, even if infected. It's the "crime scene": it's needed to understand how they got in and to recover content. Deleting everything on impulse also destroys the evidence.
  • ✓Alert your host and keep every Google message. The provider can isolate the server and supply valuable logs; Search Console notices tell you exactly what Google detected.
  • ✓Contact a professional before "tinkering".An expert eye quickly grasps the scope of the problem and prevents improvised attempts from compromising the only recoverable copy.

What not to do

The most common mistakes, the ones that turn a problem into a disaster.

  • ✗Don't delete everything on impulse.Randomly removing files or wiping the site destroys the evidence, often the recoverable content too, without truly removing the infection, which may hide elsewhere.
  • ✗Never pay a ransom. No guarantee of getting access back, it flags you as a paying target and funds more attacks. In almost every case there are alternative recovery paths.
  • ✗Don't just change one password. If the attacker left a hidden access point (backdoor) in the code, changing the panel password does nothing: they get back in anyway.
  • ✗Don't republish without a full clean-up.Putting a still-infected or uncleaned backup back online brings the problem straight back, and Google can block you again, dragging out recovery.
  • ✗Don't ignore Google's warning.Hoping it "passes on its own" sinks traffic and reputation every day. Blacklist removal must be requested, but only after a real clean-up.
03 — What we do

From emergency to peace of mind.

Whether you need an urgent intervention or simply to sleep soundly, we follow the whole path: stop the attack, clean up, get back online and protect over time.

01 — Rapid response

We stop the emergency.

When you contact us about an already-hit site, the first thing is to contain the damage: we isolate the site, block redirects and spam sending, secure access and make a forensic copy of the current state before touching anything.

In parallel we assess the real scope of the problem: which files were modified, whether there are hidden backdoors, whether the database is compromised and how long the infection has lasted. Only with this clear picture does it make sense to start acting, without improvised moves that risk making things worse or erasing evidence useful for recovery and for understanding the attack. We document every step, so you get a clear picture of what happened and when. Nothing is touched at random: first we observe, then we act, always with a safety copy set aside. Speed matters, but not at the cost of accuracy. We'd rather be sure once than sorry twice.

!
02 — Clean-up

We remove the malware.

We clean the site at the root: we remove malicious code, injected files, ghost users and backdoors, checking every file and every database table. We don't just remove what's visible: we hunt down the entry points and hidden replicas that would bring the problem back a few days later.

Where possible we restore healthy content from a clean backup, otherwise we sanitise the existing installation file by file. We then update the CMS, themes and plugins, close the vulnerabilities the attack exploited and verify the site works exactly as before, but without the infection and without any residual surprises hidden in the code. We then test every function of the site before putting it back online, leaving nothing to chance. The goal isn't just to clean, but to hand you back a site you can rely on again without a second thought.

DEF
03 — Google recovery

We unblock you from Google.

If the site ends up on Google's blacklist or shows the "Deceptive site" warning, we recover it. First we make sure the clean-up is complete and verified, because requesting a review with the site still infected only drags out the timeline and can lead to an even harsher block.

Then we handle the reconsideration request through Google Search Console, documenting the work carried out and responding to any findings. We follow the case through to the removal of the warning, so the site becomes visible in results again and visitors trust it once more, recovering the traffic and reputation lost during the block. We also explain how to read the Search Console notices, so you always know where the case stands. Meanwhile we work to keep the traffic drop as short as possible and the recovery quick.

04 — Prevention

We make sure it doesn't happen again.

A cleaned site left unprotected gets hit again fast. That's why, after the clean-up, we harden the installation: constant updates, robust credentials, correct file permissions, an application firewall and verified automatic backups, so you always have a healthy copy to restart from if needed.

With continuous monitoring we keep an eye on the site and alert you at the first suspicious signs, often before you or your customers notice. A single contact handles everything, explains what happened and what we did in plain words, and stays available: security isn't a one-off job, but an ongoing watch over time. We leave you simple instructions and a direct point of contact for any future doubt. Because real peace of mind isn't hoping it won't happen, but knowing someone is taking care of it.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we get most often.

My site has been hacked: what should I do right away?

The first thing is not to panic and not to delete everything on impulse. If you can, put the site in maintenance mode or take it offline: this stops the malware reaching visitors and the server from sending spam, which would harm the domain's reputation.

Then change all passwords, not just the panel one: hosting, FTP, database, email and admin accounts. Make a copy of the site's current state, even if infected, because it's needed to understand how they got in and to recover content. Finally, before you start tinkering, contact a professional: improvised attempts often destroy the only recoverable copy. If you like, write to us: the initial analysis is free.

How can I tell my site is compromised?

The most common signs are redirects to unknown sites (often gambling or pharma, sometimes only on mobile), spam pages appearing on Google under your domain, the red "Deceptive site" warning in the browser, and emails landing in spam or getting rejected.

Other, more technical clues: sudden slowdowns, abnormal traffic spikes, files with recent modification dates you didn't touch, new admin users appearing from nowhere or plugins you don't remember installing. A hacked site rarely "goes dark": more often it keeps working while quietly acting against you. If you notice even one of these signs, it's worth having it checked.

How much does malware removal cost?

It depends on how extensive the infection is, the type of site and what needs recovering, so there are no one-size-fits-all figures. What we can guarantee is the method: first we do a free analysis to understand the real scope, then we give you a clear quote, item by item, with timelines.

You know in advance what you pay and what you get, with no surprise costs and no inflated scaremongering to push up the bill. You decide whether to proceed, with all the information in hand. A site cleaned properly once almost always costs less than repairing it repeatedly because the infection was only removed on the surface.

How quickly do you respond?

We reply to every request within 24 hours, and much sooner for emergencies — site down, damage in progress, active blacklist. That's why the form has a dedicated urgency field: it helps us prioritise the requests that can't wait.

The intervention time itself depends on severity: a simple clean-up can take a few hours, a complex case with multiple sites or compromised databases a few days. In any case, after the initial audit we give you a realistic time estimate before starting, and we keep you updated on progress throughout.

Which platforms do you work on?

We work on WordPress and WooCommerce — by far the most targeted — but also on custom-built PHP sites and the main e-commerce platforms. WordPress is the most frequent target precisely because of its popularity and the many third-party plugins that, if not updated, easily open up gaps.

Whatever the technology, the approach is the same: understand how they got in, clean at the root, close the vulnerabilities and harden. If you're not sure how your site is built, that's no problem: tell us in the form and we'll check during the initial analysis.

My site is on Google's blacklist: can you recover it?

Yes. When Google marks a site as "deceptive" or "may harm your device", traffic collapses because almost no one gets past that red screen. We first genuinely clean the site, then handle the reconsideration request through Google Search Console.

This order is crucial: requesting a review with the site still infected only drags out the timeline and can lead to a harsher block. We document the work done, respond to any Google findings and follow the case through to the removal of the warning, so the site becomes visible again and visitors trust it once more. Recovering lost reputation takes method, but it's entirely achievable.

I've received a ransom demand: should I pay?

No, don't pay. A ransom gives you no guarantee of getting access back, flags you as a target willing to pay — and therefore worth hitting again — and effectively funds more attacks. In almost every case there are alternative recovery paths that don't involve paying.

If you've received such a demand, the best thing is to isolate the site, keep every message and screenshot as evidence, and have us contacted to assess the concrete recovery options. Often, from a clean backup or by sanitising the existing installation, you get back up and running without giving in to any blackmail.

How do I prevent it from happening again?

A cleaned site left unprotected often gets hit again fast, because the gap that was exploited is still there. That's why prevention is part of our work: constant updates of CMS, themes and plugins, robust credentials, correct file permissions, an application firewall and verified automatic backups, so you always have a healthy copy to restart from.

On top of that comes continuous monitoring, which keeps an eye on the site and flags the first suspicious movements, often before you or your customers notice. Security isn't a one-off job, but an ongoing watch over time: it's the difference between putting out a fire and installing smoke detectors.

Do you offer continuous monitoring after the clean-up?

Yes. After the clean-up you can activate continuous monitoring: we keep an eye on the site, its files and suspicious activity, and alert you at the first signs, so you can act before a small problem becomes a new emergency.

Alongside monitoring we keep security updates current and periodically verify backups, so they're always ready and working when needed. A single contact handles everything and stays available: if you notice anything odd, one message is enough and we take care of it.

Do you operate throughout Italy?

Yes. We're a web agency based in Bassano del Grappa, but we handle site hardening entirely remotely, so we work with clients across all of Italy and abroad too. This kind of intervention doesn't need a physical presence: everything that matters happens on the server and the site.

What doesn't change, wherever you are, is having a human contact who answers you, explains what's happening in plain words and follows you through to the solution. You can write to us via the form or on WhatsApp: for emergencies, chat is often the fastest channel.
